The Hijdas irrespctive of their belifs have one common spirtual code, Sarv Dharm Ek, means all Religion is One. The largest gathering of Hijdas in the month of May is at the Koovagam Koothandavar Eunuch festival. After that at the Urus of Khwajah Garib Nawaz at Ajmer, all located in a hijda gully called Moti Katra. Another place the Hijdas throng in large numbers is at the Urus of the Saint of Haji Malang near Kalyan close to Mumbai. This picture was taken at Haji Malang, it was here I decided to write about Hijdas, post their lives through my pictures.For me the Hijdas is not about alternate sexuality,it is a very imporant human factor, they have to be treated as Humans.They deserve a better deal.
These Hijdas are fiercely private, gifted, some more wealthy than an industrialist or news baron. The eunuch is a born child with defective genitalia given to the Hijdas, like Mona the Eunuch child. The Connection between Hijdas and Ajmer Sharif – 705 viewsAt The Grave of The Eunuch Saint and his Son
Finally dripping from head to toe I reached the foothill from the top of the Taki Naki Shrines at the grave of the Eunuch Saint his biological son, the name plate has HIJDA written in Hindi, there are couple of graves here that I had shot from the peak of Taki Naki Shrines.
The main grave is of Bibi Jamal the daughter of Jaipal Jadugar of Yore , she was sent by the Jadugar or the Wizard King to seduce the Kwajah Moinuddin Chisthti Al Sabri, when in those days the Khwajah had made this place his home , had gathered lots of followers who converted to Islam from the suffocating caste based religion of those days , mainly Hinduism.
This angered Jaipal Jadugar he tried all his magical tricks to get rid of the Khwajah , even his own daughter begged forgiveness of the Khwajah accepted Islam became the Khwajah earliest disciples, her grave brings a lot of barren women here the fruit of a tree with her blessings adds to the fertlity of a barren woman..
The Eunuch as the story goes did not believe in the Kwajah challenged him to bestow him with a child , he would accept Islam, the Khwajah sent him to the tomb of Bibi Jamal the new name of the converted daughter of Jaipal Jadugar ..
The Eunuch challlenged her too, became pregnant realised his stupid demand , folly and begged forgiveness asked the Holy Khwajah to intervene on his behalf he no more wanted the child growing in his womb.. His words were accepted by Bibi Jamal she threw a ball told him to follow it .. the story goes he fell of a cliff into the ravines where he lies and the child split out of his body, is buried next to him.
This is the most revered place of worship for the Hijdas , Eunuchs the transgender the hijdas of India , they do not come here via the route I came but through a motorable short cut from Taragadh , which was shown to me by a tribal boy from Fakira pada..going back the way I had come would have been my end..
This place is called Chashme Nur..on the way to Taragadh Mountains.
I was completely exhausted , dehydrated was wearing the uncomfortable Moroccan Djellaba , with nothing inside.. in a Dhoti I could have stripped to my waist , this was not possible in the djellaba..
And this was my first trek.. that I was not aware where my feet would take me..
I was barefeet too..

I shot this picture at the All India Hijda Sammelan, it was Raju Srivastav the event organiser, who told me abut this unique family , Babita the foster mother of Mona the Eunuch Child, her father Gopal Hajji, I was introduced to them, Doordarshan was taking an interview of Mona, who was superbly in command not camera shy , but completely confident.
Mona is well protected , loved by the entire Hijda comminity, if I was not told about her by Raju bhai I would have thought of her as another curious child running around the sammelan.
I saw Mona take the stage the first few moments of stage fright , but being egged by the Hijda crowd she came into her own.
That part of the event will never fade from my memory, I was abused by Baby the Head Guru of Vikhroli, for taking pictures that was entirely a private affair only for Hijdas.
But today my pictures are on the net , an ocean without any control, I dont need explicit permission , take it, I guess I am a Blog Photographer , I dont fuckin get uptight, I get a courtesy line its ok with me..I dont come from a world of News Media, I swim against a Main Stream…I am new to the written world , but I am not new to this world , the street world that I have lived for 54 years , the street world that I began shooting about 6 years back.
I dont sell my pictures , I give them free like feeding fishes in a fountain of a Mosque..
I do not think I will ever write a book, yes but on the net I will be read like a novelty.. pictures poems pain included.
I sometimes wonder what drives me towards the Hijdas , I have no answer , I met them on my train journey to Lucknow for Ashura, I have not seen the pictures all on CD , I met an old one at Chehlum procession in Delhi but I aborted posting the rest of the pictures due to the wound on my hand.
I just called up Laxmi told her about the Faleiro episode, I avoid controrversy , living and trying to unlive life is a bigger a more fucked controversy..
The only time explicit permission does not work is when I get auto fucked with my clothes on by ladies on the Internet.
Dont ask me to elaborate seminal stains on the conciousness of my cynernetic chaotic clinging to my testicular fortitude of a “Hijdaeroticness.”.. this is a Laxmi coinage ..conterfeit unlaundered Hijda tragedy.
