The Hijda Haven Gully No1 Kamatipura/MY NEW HIJDA BLOGS AND SITE – 5425 viewsI sat for sometime, talking to the toy boys, realising that Zeenath Hijda Guru had given me the slip, I decided to go to Chor Bazar and from there to the notorious Red Light Cages of Mumbai.

Sona Hijda of Gully No1 – 5034 viewsInitially she warned me not to take her pictures, as she thought I was shooting for telivision, would be noticed by her relatives, I told her I was a still photographer shooting for Internet.
But I guess the internet has a greater and an undying reach as compared to telivision.
Actually if I had funds I could really pay them for their time get their life stories, but I do not have such an agenda, I do not plan to write a book, I shot Hijdas , because it gives me a reason to penetrate the darkness of their lives, I pull my Hijdas from anonymity to make them appear on you monitor screen as human beings..
The Hijdas of India are very good and can be very bad..extreme qualities of survival.

Yes I would like to be in Marc De Clercqs shoes as he at this moment must be shooting the Hijdas at Laxmis house, cooking, eating, wooing Marc, the rest I shall give my fucked imagination rest.
Somebody asked me to start a Hijda Trust, but I left this matter with Laxmi my Hijda Guru.
If someone could sponsor me it would be a different matter ,to shoot Hijdas all over India..

Zeenath Hijda Guru Gully No1 – 5459 viewsZeenath asked me politely to leave, but she would meet me down afer the Puja, I fell for her line, I did not want to aggravate her by shooting anymore pictures, so I retreated but on the landing near the toilet were Hijdas having a bath, I was warned not to take pictures,I moved away sitting with the toy boys to realise that Zeenath sent a message that she had left on an urgent call.
This picture was shot in fear and hurry .
I took some casual shots of a Hijda called Sona .

Zeenat Hijda Guru Gully No1 Kamatipura – 5051 viewsI reached the second floor came face to face with Zeenath the Hijda Guru Gully No1, I told her I was a chela of Laxmi Narayan Tripathi, I was searching for some Hijdas I had shot during the Ganesh Visarjan, as this was a impromptu trip, had I planned it I should have carried the 4/6 prints of the Hijdas I had shot, this would heve been the best approach, I could pretend I want to give the pictures to them, they out of curiosity would ask me to shoot them too, but I am a dumb arsehole in matters of the mind..I step on the gas at the last moment to realise the tyres have gone burst..
Zeenat was bare breasted I asked her to cover herself I requested a picture, realising I had no flash on my Nikon F100 that was loaded with a Fuji Film ASA 400, very grainy..not as sharp as what it used to be a few years back.. the light came from the back the reading was 30 at 2.8
I took the shot , Zeenath was performing a puja my lens was Nikon 50mm AF1.4 the best in such situations..
This was a puja of Initiation of a new Hijda in the fold, blessings of Bhaichura Mata were being invoked, lots of sweets vermillions, the new Hijda in a silk saree head covered.. I missed my 20 mm lens..
But beggars as photographers cant be choosers..if wishes were horses than Hijdas would ride.
I think Matt of Word Press should have me voted at Word Press as the best most informative Hijda and Eunuch site ....but multicolored asses like mine take time to be noticed..but if I was in Iraq choked on a river bend they would have noticed me alright.

Hijda Gully1 Kamatipura – 3780 viewsI got these negs scanned , I got them last night, last Friday as mentioned earlier I had come to town , to surf the Kamatipura flea market, but it was locked for the day.
So I decided to take me towards Chor Bazar , which is paart of my Friday itenary, as I moved towards the various Kamatipura lanes, I decided to enter Kamatipura Gully No1, notorious as the den of the prostitute variety of Hijdas.
I had heard of this place , but never been here ever, I had shot some of the Hijda denizens of thia area with their Lord Ganesha float during the Ganpati Visarjan.
At the most I would pretend I was searching for them if questioned by the Hijda goons here, strangers dressed like me, with a Havana Hat, chunky rings, silver stick, camera, blonde hair is not a usual sight with loads of gemstone hanging down my neck.
This is the entrance to Gully No 1.
Their are lots of Manholes ahead.
This huge white building called Shankar Marwari Chawl or Lambii Chawl, is where all the Hijdas from this prostitution gharana live.This was my first shot..
I was shit scared as you dont mess with Hijdas in their area.. I had no reference here, Laxmi Narayan Tripathi was in Amsterdam.
I am posting this from my shop, all this while I was at home..I avoid my shop on Sundays as I have to search someone to lift the shutter , my wounded hand makes it impossible to lift anything.
I went ahead closer towards the little shop like houses , the Hijdas sit outside in pairs to solicit customers, this was about 10am.Quite early.
But the migrant workers , the menial daily workers come here to let of steam.
The two Hijdas I met did not respond properly to me, till I went ahead talked to a few toy boys who directed me to Zeenath a balding Hijda guru in the same building on the second floor, the staircase barely can accomodate one person.It was really scary,press cards dont work here ,,even the copskeep away from getting entangled with Hijdas.
Hijdas are clannish, support their own kind, secretive , authoritative, have their own set of rules, own set of Panch.. who pass judgement.
So with this I will move ahead .I am working on a picture at a time.
