this is a replica of the shrine of imam hussains brorther named hazrat abbas noted for his valour.. and his sacrifice,,, he was the standard bearer of the army of the imam that consisted of 72 people against the yazidi forces...imam hussains army was totally wiped out in karbala present iraq..
but a new army took its place an army of mourners called shias.
hyderabad is the city in india where the feelings of the faith of these people can be seen...
i shot this picture for the writing on the walls... and in the heart of the kids.

This is the Choti Bargah and the owner of this place is another Baqar Saab, and this is the replica of the Holy Shrine of Hazrat Abbas and much of my time was spent here, and this is a very helpful and wonderful joint family...and the guy sitting near the doorstep is the florist who ply their trade outside the imambargahs..and devotees offer floral tributes inside..

The Baqar Saab and his family and specially his son who works in Kuwait.. are trying hard to make this a two storey Imambargah for worship, Moharram and for their residential quarters as this is an expanding family.
The beauty of this imambargah is arare collection of photos of the Imams and their shrines in Iraaq and Iran.. and these adorn the walls here..and Hazrat Abbas es Alam.. and the weddingchmber of Hazrat Kassam son of Imam Hassan who was brutally killed by Yazids armies and his body trampled by running horses such was Hate against the Progeny of the Holy Prophet and much of the hate was towards Hazrat Ali ..Imam Hussains erstwhile father who had killed a lot of relatives of Abu Sufiyan father of Mauwiyah founder of the Ummayad Caliphate..and Yazid was his son..
and Karbala was where the seeds of todays so called Islamic or should I say UnISLAMIC seeds of Terrorism was sown, killing, plundering in the name of Allah.. defiling His Name ,His Prophet The Ahle Baith.. and Innocence, Truth, and all good things.
The Taliban are the same bye products of Abu Sufiyans seed and the terrorizing , beheading Indian engineers, and raping and looting ..backed by their Madarssas and the Pakistani warlords, and such is life in Afghanistan.. where a well tailored man leads a people that live in tatters and unfed..and political chaos.. and the remote control held uselessly by the American political system and the CIA...and the same scenario in Iraq.. Karbala revisited by the forces of Yazid.. in American uniforms, and Militant Sunni Ressurgence.. and the misery of a robbed nation of Shias , Sunnis and Kurds..

These are Alams or standards of the Imams.. the craftmanship is worth admiring, and Hyderabad stands out in this context ..every structure a beauty bought to live by the erstwhile Nizams of Hyderabad...I regret I never did take notes, or try to delve in the history as there was hardly any time and I was here for 3 days to celeberate Ashura and rush back to Mumbai.

This is a matam where the chest is cut with a blade kept between the fingers,I have never done it, and I dont think I will ever do it, not my style.
But Razor matam is famous in Hyderabad,they have made it into an art.
They also take a flat broad cricket bat embedded with blades and use it on their backs.
And in Chelum the Hyderabadis cut their foreheads as though they are cutting onions or potatoes.
In Ashura in Hyderabad the floor is ankle deep with blood in Bibi ka Makbara an event where the Alam of the Holy Prophets daughter Janabe Fatima is taken on an elephant and rare precious diamonds thats part of the entourage and a security that is unbelievable.. for the Hindus this Alam is auspicious and they close their shops just to pay tribute to it.,.amazing.
The folks in Kolkatta use folding plastic razors modelled on the old ones.. these are awfully sharp and violent.
The guys from Hallor cut their chests open with the wild strokes of their hands and nobody can beat them at all ..they are specially called over at various Moharam events.
In Madras or Chennai they break a bottle and use that for beating on their chests..I have never been there but will go oneday..
In Lucknow it is zanjir or kama.
In Mumbai in Chelum..dont see my pictures of the cemetry you will go wantonly insane..

The Nawabs of this Kothi are highly hospitable , inspite of Moharam mourning go out of their way to make you at home, everyone here the young the old , present themselves with the heritage of their Hyderabadi Heritage and old age charm.
These humble people who have seen the best of times , opulence , grandeur, today have problems adjusting to changing times , but their younger generation has made great strides..I was really gratified the way they treated me..

“My son Qasim! A day will approach when my brother Hussein will be facing an enemy army of tens of thousands. That will be the day when Islam will need to be saved by sacrifice. You must represent me on that day.”
These were the words of the grandson of holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (s.w.), elder Chief of the Youths of Paradise Hazrat Imam Hassan bin Ali Al-Mujtaba (a.s.) written in a letter, which he had given to his wife Hazrat Umm-e-Farwa before his martyrdom saying “If ever you find Qasim in difficulty, give him this letter.”
Hazrat Umm-e-Farwa (a.s.) gave Hazrat Qasim (a.s.) the letter in the burning plain of Karbala on Ashura, the tenth day of Muharram-ul-Haram, in 60 AH, at a time when she saw her son disappointed as Imam Hussein (a.s.) twice refused to give him permission to go and fight in the battle of Karbala, saying “Qasim you are young and your mother's only son.”
Hazrat Qasim (a.s.) while reading the words of his father Hazrat Imam Hassan (a.s.), the elder grandson of Chief of Prophets Hazrat Muhammad Mustafa (s.w.), smiled. He rushed to Imam Hussein (a.s.) and gave him the letter. After going through the letter Imam Hussein (a.s.) said, “O my brother's son, how can I stop you from doing what your father wanted you to do?! Bismillah, go. Allah be with you”.
Hazrat Qasim ibn-e-Hassan (a.s.) was born on 7th of the holy month of Shaban Al-Moazzam, 47 AH, three years before his father was martyred. He was taken into care by Imam Hussein (a.s.). Imam Hussein (a.s.) and Hazrat Abbas (a.s.) trained Hazrat Qasim (a.s.) from this tender age and transformed him into a brave and courageous fighter during a short period. Standard-bearer of Husseini Army Hazrat Abbas (a.s.) specially devoted time in teaching him swordsmanship.
When Imam Hussein (a.s.) prepared to depart Medina in the month of Rajab 60 AH, Hazrat Qasim (a.s.)’s mother Hazrat Umm-e-Farwa (a.s.) asked Imam Hussein (a.s.) to take her and Qasim with him. Imam Hussein (a.s.) agreed.
13-year-old Hazrat Qasim (a.s.), grandson of Ali Al-Murtaza (a.s.), nephew of Abbas Alamdar (a.s.), son of Hassan Al-Mujtaba (a.s.) and son-in-law of Hazrat Imam Hussein (a.s.), was valiant, courageous and handsome in the outlook like the moon of 14th night.
His love for religion of Islam and Chief of Martyrs Hazrat Imam Hussein (a.s.), and desire for martyrdom could be judged from the fact that when Imam (a.s.) said that we all will be placed at the pedestal of Martyrdom, Prince Qasim (a.s.) asked whether his name would also be included in those martyrs. Imam (a.s.) asked him “Son, how do you find the death?” Qasim ibne Hassan (a.s.) replied: “Uncle, I see death sweeter than honey”.
Spirit of martyrdom and display of courage and bravery in Karbala presented by Hazrat Qasim ibn-e-Hassan (a.s.) is inclusive practical lesson for the youngsters fighting for freedom in every era.
