This is the pathway that leads to the church.. and earlier every time I bought a new camera , a new lens I would test it in the church....and get a good picture to in the bargain..you guys will think I am crazy but I am literally pulled by shirt collar.. when Jesus wants a pcture to be taken.. I will be walking on the road and a tug, a pull, and the next thing I am in the courtyard shooting Resurrection and Life or the church interiors, and the church has blown all my pictures life size..and all shot by a film camera..and the Church does not need to pay me. I am paying back.. for my education.. and these words that are part of what I learnt at Holy Name High School Colaba...

This is Boran Road and every corner of a Bandra lane has a cross and most of these crosses were placed by the early East Indian community that were the earliest settlers.
And Bandra was a sleepy fishing village, known as Gaothans.. Bandra Bazzar was the local market, futher ahead was Chapel road liitle est Indian bungalows of Amaras, Perreiras, Dsilvas, Dmontes, and the parish surrounded by them, St Peters church, St Andrews, Mount Carmel, Mount Mary, and St Theresas, and little grottos near Waroda Road, Veronica Road, and Bandra was predominntly Roman Catholic, and the women wore the kasta saree, and guys a peak cap, baggy trousers, loose white shirt, suspenders, french beard, and thequitessential smoking pipe.. and a cane and Clarke Gabelish walk, and young girls with heaving chests, red bloody lipsticks, sleevelees frocks and magically undershaven arms, whiff of a strong heady fishy fragrance.. and tight troublesome buttocks, and love in the air.. and the local romeos, Albert, Santos, Edmund, Alphonso, and Jerome whom the Hindu girls called Jairam.. and such was the cultural combustion of old time Bandra..and it all changed once the Muslim Migrants from down town started buying out the Catholic properties, and shanties like Jammate Jammuriya and other tenements started sprouting and the Church watched impotently ..rendering only to God what belonged to God ..and to Ceasar nothing .. the Church was apolitical.. like Pontius Pilate.. it just wanted to see more head count at Mass.. and the poor Catholic folks lost out to builders and had to move into nondescript suburban areas of Naigaon, Vasai , Uttan, Marve , Malad..
and the Rizvis, the Rahejas Raja Builders and other building sharks changed Bandra into a sea of Sky Scrapers.. yes Bandra of old was lost forever.. all The Hudson gang, Peter Collins, Frankie, Karen, Carol, all gone like bubbles blown away at Mount Marys Fair..
And these crosses are reminders of lost Time and some are almost 100years old.
And my editor friend Bandra Times Clarence Gomes of 100Bazzar Road has done much to spearhead and save the East Indian Heritage,

There are times I look back 52 yyears, and the number of times I fell in love and I would spend my time ruminating all alone in the Holy Name Parish,..and praying that Julie does not leave me, and Christabel who also loved me and was taken in by the Elvis Presley charms of my classmate..Dennison Perreira..and I would seek all my answers in the Church..and I was in the 8th standard..and natural urges..waking me into a new phase to my budding sexuality., and Love the staple diet of a teenager.I got over school..college marriage but one thing remained Love and in my most lonely hours I seek salvation in the tungsten light of the Holy Tabernacle..that has remained illuminated in this heathen heart..heathen because this heart flourished without the dictates of religion...and Love that little candle inthe wind..not even Time could blow out.And Love was always distant.. later in life .I had an American girlfriend Jackson Missisipi, later she went to SMU Dallas Texas..and love in absentia.. like a creeper began to die , she met a guy much better looking almost like Lord Byron.. ..and I have their dreamy in love picture that she sent me as a parting gift...no remorse , no guilt,and I add her and her guy to my prayers...and we never kept in touch.
I had met her only once and she had swept me off my feet , outside the Oberoi Sheraton under a moth attacked lamp post I fell at her feet and kissed her dainty toes..and such was the innocence of the ebullient 70s I asked for her hand.. and she wept..and I gave her Tagores Gitanjali..and wrote letters and kept fanning the flames with postage..and when things went wrong .. which they do even now I would remember my soliloquy in the church under the gaze of Jesus Christ...
And I have dedicated this gallery to Mary Magdalene..who was more woman than the woman of her time .. for all times.
She loved a love that could not be hers..but she loved.
And that is why we all love.. Mary Magdalene.

Father Son and the Unholy Gutter – 23 viewsThis is another section of Bandra Bazar Road, and this pictorial punishment for the Lord, his feet washed by the dirty waters f the open gutter, and it is like this rain, or shine.Next to the Cross is a liitle room of a caterer , who cooks food , oudoor catering for marriages, birthdays and other celeberations, and he does it outside near the Gutter.And this narrow path leads to my house, and I walk barfeet, and the Lord at Bandra Bazar Road is also barefeet..
The Muslim caterer does not care for the hygiene of his clients, and Lord Jesus Christ is the least of his problems, for him its a mere hinderance to his expansion , and the encroachment of this road for his business.
I tell you at times I feel its not spirituality of any religion, but the entire Bandra Bazar Road that is forsaken , by the Lord God of Hosts the Bandra Municipality.And by the time the Municipality at Bandra becomes web savvy and reads this, I would be dead and gone into some god forsken unmarked Guttered Grave at the Shia Cemetry.
And the politicians , they wont see this at all, they come once in 5 years...promise , and once elected , dont even know where Bandra Bazar Road is located.And for those eunuched souls like me it is a graveyard on our collective cosciousness.
And its a fact that the politicians have eunuched us completely.. no gender war.Peace.
Castrated peace.
And a picture is not even worth the shit or the tissue paper that you use to wipe shit.

St Micheals Church Mahim – 22 viewsThis is a Wednesday famous church because of its Novenas , and everybody from all walks of life , from far stretched corners of Mumbai comes to offer Mass here, and it is packed to the gills.
I have never been inside, but I see its beauty from afar , and the devotion of people that have made this a famous site of Christian pilgrimage in Mumbai.

Going Bananas on 15th August 2006 – 24 viewsI shoot what I see and crop , but try never to manipulate reality or emotions, I cant shoot in studio environment, and this morning I got up early and went to St Peters Church, they have the 9.45 am Independence Mass, and the church is decorated in the colors of our flag, but I ended up at the St Stanislaus school hall and the school kids and their 15th August celebrations, and the Pricipal Fr Lawrie calling the shot, Fr Lawrie is an educator , and a modern kurta wearing Jesuit and it is their 300 year of the Jesuits I believe, and I am greatful to Fr Lawrie who allowed me to shoot pictures of the school events to hone my photographic knowledge and I gave him a set of prints, and one of my pictures that is called Under the Shadow of the Lord I presented to Fr Lawrie and also to Cardinal Ivan Dias at the Archbishop House last year, though Cardinal Ivan Dias is now esconced at the Holy Vatican..Cardinal Ivan Dias, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, Grand Chancellor of the Pontifical Urban University and he speaks 16 languages.
The function was really amazing as it spoke about the unsung heroes of India, and Fr Lawrie enlightened the crowd that the original Tricolor of the Red Fort has been lost but the School Flag since 1947 still exists and was hung as a backdrop.
I shot some picures, and met my friend Darryl who wore my new design at Church, and Fr Gerard the parish priest of St Peters Church, took me aside annd said that without my permission he had used my picrures for their website, I told him my pictures belong to all, and also requested him that I have over 300 negatives rolls of the St Peters Church unscanned , and if he could ask someone to scan them and would be a part of their archives, as I am quite broke , and scanning charges are high...I would keep a set of the Cd.. I told him.
Fr Gerard and Fr Juan are my spiritual mentors.
And Fr Juan the Spanish priest who came to India in 1952 , learnt Gujrati stayed at Anand , than 22 years at St Marys in Mumbai, and the next stint St Peters Church Bandra.
I have never seen a more versatile Jesuit than Fr Juan, he gave a speech in Marathi and is a Pukka Mumbaikar and is in 63rd year as a Jesuit.
The other priest to whom I owe much is Fr Stephen Nazereth retired and is at St Josephs Chapel RC church.. he was known as the Singing Guitar playing priest .
I had run away from home as a kid and landed at Bandra and Fr Stephen Nazereth who knew me from my school Holy Name High School paid me my train far and sent me back home...
And there was Fr Leslie Ratus of Bandra , he too taught me the meaning of Life and he is dead I believe.
I owe my upbringing to the Roman Catholic priests...I only dont like their missionary zeal in proselytizing empty stomachs as Tabernacle of Christ.

Sare Jahan Se Accha Hindustan Hamara – 35 views15th August Independance Da St Peters Church Bandra
This is hand held shot , this was set up for me by the Holy Spirit I think, the dog well , he attends Mass like the rest of the Congregation, he is a wise one, much wiser than those who sin and confess.And he too the Holy Spirit wanted me to shoot, I was dressed in my traditional best , but with a white and silver turban.
And though there are some stares but they know I mean no harm and St Peters Church is as much my parish as theirs., this I shot before I went to the school hall, to shoot the St Stanislaus 15th August celebratiions.
And among all those who read me at Buzznet there is only one lady The Alaskan Fern who is always worried about me , we did share some intimate moments , but we are great friends and soul mates.
And she remembered me as I remembered all my American friends on July 4th 2006.
