Black Madonna and Child – 67 viewsBlack Madonna and Child
Yes I leave it to your interpretation, the Black Maddona.and Child .. at Bandra Bazzar Road Mumbai
.
Christ's Mother, "The Black Madonna"
is worshiped throughout Europe of all places
The most sacred icons of the Catholic Church are the Black Madonna and Christ child, which are found in Europe's most venerated shrines and cathedrals. Each year, hundreds of thousands of European pilgrims ritually humble themselves before the image of Black Mary and her child Jesus at Black Madonna sites throughout France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Portugal and other Catholic countries. Many Black Madonna statues have the black paint literally kissed off of their hands and feet. In Poland, the Church encourages believers to pray to the Black Madonna of Czestochowka every morning before rising. It is reported that Pope John Paul follows this ritual. Time Magazine (June 11, 1979) reported on Popelaul II's visit to Czestochowka's holiest shrine, which prominently displays "The Lady" known for centuries as the Black Madonna. At Our Lady of Koden (Poland), there are statues of white saints carrying pictures of Black Madonnas. Pilgrims throughout the ages have visited Black Madonna sites and left inspired, confident, relieved, or healed of their afflictions. Today, there are over 300 documented Black Madonna sites in France alone! 1 Sometimes they are hidden awaken vaults, while the public is shown Madonnas with Europeanhttp://www.saxakali.com/suzar/madonna.htm features
There are almost five hundred so-called "Black" Madonnas scattered over Europe, the highest concentrations appearing in France and Italy. Many are believed to have miraculous powers of healing and protection.
While many of these dark-skinned Virgins are explained away as the result of candle soot or age, most appear to be deliberately created with black skin. Some bear reference to the Song of Songs from the Old Testament:
"I am black, but beautiful, daughters of Jerusalem. Like the black tents of Cedar, like the pavilions of Solomon."
The Black Madonnas are associated with the earth, with darkness, mystery, and most importantly, miracles. Many have theorized that these images and statues hearken back to the worship of the ancient Goddesses Isis and Demeter; indeed, some of the statues themselves are believed to be pre-Christian. Certainly, the image of the divine mother and child-god are older than Christianity, and the tendency of the Catholic Church to borrow, consciously or subconsciously, the iconography of widespread Pagan cults at the time of it's founding is well known.
The statues have also been connected to Mary Magdalen, who is often seen as the counterpart of the Virgin "Goddess" Mary- an emblem of fertility and sexuality, a substitute for the missing "Goddess consort" to Christ.

Kissing the Skies Mount Mary – 34 viewsMount Mary Church, Bandra
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search
The Basilica of Our Lady of the Mount more commonly known as Mount Mary is a Roman Catholic church in the city of Mumbai, India. The church is one of the most visited churches in the city located in the suburb of Bandra. Every September, the feast of Mount Mary is celebrated on the Sunday following the September 8th which is the birthday of Mary the Mother of Jesus.. This is a week long celebration known as the Bandra Fair and is visited by thousands of people.
[edit]
The Church
The church stands on a hillock about 80 metres above sea level overlooking the Arabian Sea. It draws lakhs of devotees and pilgrims annually. Many faithful attest to the miraculous powers of the Mount. During the Bandra Fair, tens of thousands visit the shrine. The shrine attracts people from all faiths who pray to the statue for thanksgiving or requesting of favours.
During the Bandra Fair, the entire area is decorated with festoons and buntings. Many pitch up stalls selling religious objects, roasted grams and sweet items which is a must buy for most people visiting. Stalls sell sticky Goan sweets and wax idols of the Virgin along with an assortment of candles shaped like hands, feet and various other parts of the body. The sick and suffering choose one that corresponds to their ailment and light it in Church, with the pious hope that Mother Mary will consider their appeals for help.
[edit]
The statue
Although the current church edifice is just 100 years old, the history behind the current statue of Our Lady goes back to the 16th century when Jesuit priests from Portugal brought the statue to the current location and constructed a chapel. In 1700 Arab pirates interested in the gilt-lined object held in the hand disfigured the statue by cutting off the right hand.
In 1760, the church was rebuilt and the statue was substituted with a statue of Our Lady of Navigators in St. Andrew's church nearby. This statue has an interesting legend. It goes that a Koli fisherman dreamt that he would find a statue in the sea. The statue was found floating in the sea somewhere between 1700—1760. A Jesuit Annual Letter dated to 1669 and published in the book St. Andrew's Church, Bandra (1616-1966) supports this claim.
In 1761 the original statue was re-adorned with a child in her arms and has been in use ever since.

Coughing out Emotions – 73 viewsEvery picture that you shoot has your signature engraved on it much before you shoot it, I set out on this premise , and in all my years of shooting Mount Mary , I was never gifted with such a picture, the Lady of the Mount rising out of the twin spires of the Basilica , the canopy of cheerful clouds, and mind you this is very harsh light , and burning floor and me bare feat..and shooting pictures baerfeet has its own mystical peculiarity, that I felt at the Bada Imambada too, I have discontinued the Tantric one leg photography , it is no help to my defective Nikon lens..
And I am recuperating at Buzznet as Commentator no1, stabbed several times by friends , favorites and foes as Photographerno1.
And I am happy to have been singled out by my cybernetic predator for a punishment that was my day of reckoning .
And today is the second day of my fast , wife will come in the evening and we shall break bread together..and I am lucky I have a single wife , imagine breaking bread with 7 wives and 28 children, my 78 year old acquaintance from Hyderabad I met at a wedding reception who wanted aphrodisiacs as I looked like a medicine wheel headed turbanatored Medicine Man..
I complete an year at Buzznet , and at Bloggespot too, and I think I am happy playing the role of a Bloggerno1 to the hilt.
Ihave never gone back to Don Ramseys Fotothing or Webshots or Sulekha Blogs .
And I never like jejube tasting cut copy pasting Flickr
And I have another American predator Foster Blane that has taken a liking to my syrupy poetic ,choclate dripping multi colored ass..
And for what and why this animosity really puzzles me, you dont like my poetry, well take it or leave it as poetic spam, but why drum beat me unecessarily..and luckily at poem hunter they dont see my visuals or me..
And Mr Fucked Foster Blane did not like my poem I am the Voice of America and it was not my voice, I was putting words into a dead Marines body prematurely choked in a silver wooden casket and shrouded with the opulence of a stars and stipes shroud..courtesy Bush and Co.
And I dont even chat on their forums, and I only read a few poets there , Mr Erhard Lang, Tai Chi Italy, Will Barber..and I have no time reading poets as I am busy posting my suff on three surviving blogsites..

Dr Friedritchs Day Out – 33 viewsDr Friedritch was an Austrian tourist who came with his Iranian guide Mr Ali , Mr Ali stays near Moghul Masjid and has spent 12 years living in Germany, and we bang into each other when I go to have black Kava at Khushali the Iranian samovar, I had givenn him my card so he ended up at my shop on Sunday, and I took them home for tea and than took the Austrian doctor to shoot the Roman Catholic churches in Bandra, the few where I have access thanks to my good rapport with the Jesuits and Monsignor Neris Rodriques of the Mount Mary Basilica.. and the earlier picture of me in the St Peters Church graveyard was shot Dr Friedtrich on his Nikon D 200.
And this too is the facade to the most beautiful church in Bandra.. and I deliberately took in the lens flare to add halo on the head of the Holy Spirit who is in his sunday best when I ever shoot the Church.
