Moharam Memories in Timelessness Lucknow

Moharam in Lucknow is a unique experience, majlis hopping, matam on the streets of Nakhas, majlis at Akka Baqar , or Majlis at Nazim Saab Imambara, or Majlis by Maulana Kalbe Jawad Saab at Gufra Map.
At Shia Girls college the lion roars, Maulana Agha Roohi,,recites the majils but seen on a huge screen outside.
Every Maulana has his individualistic style , hordes of followers, hand kissin followers, gawking followers , all kinds of followers.
The ladies of Lucknow crowd to Maulana Kalbe Jawads Saabs Majlis , as he speaks on their enlighment emphasizing on further education, women related topics touched bythe scriptures.
I shot a sequence at Mufti Ganj at Meeran Saab's Imambara it was totally jampacked with women..after the Majis there were the Taboots , this was a fabulous shoot, all shot on Raw format.
The Dariya Wala Alam, on 8 Moharam, the enormous crowds , this is a horrendously huge Juloos, the Alam of Hazrat Abbas moves from the Masjid of the Djinns to Gufra Map taking hours , reaching in the wee hours of the morning.
The shops markets almost all establishments on Nakhas road are shut, even cybercafes, I used to go to Aminabad to post my stuff at Word Press.
But on Ashura morning there was the huge Juloos starting from Shia College , with Kamazani , Zanzir Zani, this ends at the Karbala Talkatore wgere the hiuse Tazias are buried.. this is avery awesome moment , all roads closed for vehicular traffic, the Shia have a special fast called Faqa, an enforced fast, barefeet , bare head no caps.. this is the saddst day for the Shias.
Unlike other cities, the Shias have a huge Juloos at Hazrat Abbas Dargah, on 11th of Moharam, it is in memory of the venerable fourth Imam Zainul Abedin..I shot some amazing shots atop the Dargah,here the Zanjir Kama Matam is nothing short of Murder..Blood everywhere.
For the Shias anything connected with the Fourth Imam is a very sensitive matter, a sickly somn of Hazarat Imam Hussain who carried forth the Imamat after the Martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain.. Karbala was borne by this Imam , but greater persecution, shame was in store for him at the Court Of Yazid.. the display of the Warrior heads of Imam Hussain members of his family , members of his Army..the pain of the four year old Bibi Sakina youngest daughter of Hazrat Imam Hussain.
This is one of the reasons the Shia can forget any injury to him his family, but Karbala he will never forget nor forgive the killers of Imam HUssain..
Karbala is the greatest Shia Sunni divide..as I see it.
I have not mentioned Janabe Zainab, the indomitable Sister of Imam Hussain, because of her Kutbas, her formidable spirtual moralistic strength the Message of Karbala remains alive even today.
