I shot this picture yesterday at noon, and it is an amazing temple attached to a garden called Madhu Park,at Khar , and Saturdays there is a huge line of people wanting to get prasad and pay their offerings, I had shot pictures that day late evening and all of them came out badly under exposed, and here you can see the numerous bells and I have to shoot this part from the road and moving vehicular traffic.
And nowadays with threats of exremism photography has taken the first hit, and the next hit and real bad one is for the photographer,wrong time , wrong place, sometimes I dread the fact supposing you go to shoot pictures dressed like me and god forbid there is an explosion after you are gone.. well you might have been luckier dying in the explosion as the investigative agencies and the media proclaim you guilty before you can even defend yourself at Court, and this spinelessness is what has become of present society.Cultural Cowardice .And the Indian Judiciary should stop this parallel form of verdict given by the Media and the Investigative Agencies.
They catch a guy , he has incriminating evidence, planted , unplanted but it is touted from all the TV Channel Minarets and theDomes of Newspapers that a terrorist has been caught, and the actual Metrosexual Terrorist is a million light years away from the minds of the investigative officer, I mean you are catching everyone with beards and skull caps, yet the perperator oft he Mumbai Blasts might never ever get caught... and I will shout this fact, how can you nab a rotten system.. a corrupt system, impotency , intelligence failure, disillusionment, you ban one suspected villifying group and another group you can not shut its mouth, as it is the mouth of a vociferous Muslim bashing society.. and might even come to power the next elections you dare not.. fuck all this scares me , the core question is not about religion, we have to prove we are Indians..And nowadays the only way of proving for a Muslim that he is a good Indian is a dead Muslim.
I was caught two years back shooting the Gol Devel Temple at Nal Bazar and I was hauled up to the VP Road police station and the Senior Police Inspector Mr Tawde made me destroy my film roll , and gave me a sermon as though I had comitted the greatest sin an act of Terrorism, and I showed him my Press Card, my shop Card , and the Inspector Desai on duty had the gall to tell me in todays time even police officers are not trusted in society, I immediately called Mr Shatrughan Sinha the wife of the former Rajya Sabha and actor Mr Shatrughan Sinhas wife, whose husbands clothes I have been designing since last 23 years ,who put in a word, imagine living 52 years , paying taxes and to be vouched as a citizen of a country at the words of a clients wife.
And I laughed when Mrs Shatrughan Sinha told me Firoze why dont you wear normal clothes when you go to the Temple.
That I touch her feet and consider her a Mother is not part of this essay
And even the Police Station is a Temple .. bigger than a Temple of God.. people the most hardened start wetting their pants at a Police Station and so you can imagine my dilemma, wearing a Dhoti, an Indian Sadhu Turban, and lots of jewelery and not wearing a chequered scarf,a pathani suit, no beard and am suspected of being a Terrorist.And this was two years back ... imagine getting caught now...and the Naaka Bandis , and the only place that has given me a celebrity status is Bandra for having fallen in a open manhole and making news in Mumbai Mirror..and luckily this was not a 16"opening in Kurkushetra, they would have let mto die without calling in the Army and pulling me out after 50 hours like a Prince on his birthday.
And I was told by Inspector Desai of VP Station to come and report each afternoon at the police station,but I must mention when I went to meet him the next day with my pictorial stuff he said dont come any more and apologized for inconvenience caused.And the Mumbai Police can spot a criminal by smelling him, so I dont know how they goofed up on me.
And I shoot temples and show it to the world the unifying culture of my country, and they make me destroy my film roll, and I dont makemoney selling pictures, like others do, I leave my job rush to shoot Indian Hindu festivals. because it is composite part of my teachings and my birthright.. and I am lucky for the first time I dont look like a Muslim , beard shaven lips and a skull cap.. and I wear saffron , and I am proud when someones calls me a Hindu.. yes I am a Hindustani.. and we dont change the spots of our Nationality.. and fuck you who think you can pack us of in a train to Pakistan..
And this is what hurts and ails all of us, fear psychosis, and I shoot pictures, and I am never going to wear a trouser and shirt not even over my dead body.
This is Police Paranoia, results, and I feel sorry they work long hours and totally under political pressure, and a needle in a haystack are values of Humanity.
And I met very close police officer who is now in the Crime Branch, I said hello to him, and than he asked me if I had any infornmation, I thought he was joking and my wife was standing a few steps way near Good Luck Restaurant, I said how am I to get information... He said poker faced Oh you travel and see and hear so much.. ..and it struck me perhaps he was referring to my Shiva s Camera eye..
